I am honored to be included in the nine female lyricists that composer Jaime Lozano chose to collaborate with on his song cycle “A Never Ending Line.” I mean we are talkin’ BMI, NYU, international credits, Lilly Award winners…whoa, I’m intimidated just looking at the bios here. The song cycle captures the ups and downs of female life, including some surprises that don’t often make it into song. Jaime conceived of this show as a tribute to the strong women in his life, and the band is all women, the cast is all women, and the designers are almost all women. And as if that wasn’t enough, Jaime has been described as “Broadway’s next big thing” by none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda (“In The Heights” and “Hamilton” – yeah – gulp – “Hamilton”!).
Be still my heart, and describe the show…The arrangements for keyboard, harp, and cello range from Latin to pop, to almost classical in nature. The lyrics reveal a lot about women, so if you’ve felt like you “don’t understand women” – this might even qualify as educational theatre. And if you identify as female, you will definitely enjoy the perspective. The show runs about 1 hour 15 minutes with no intermission and is in the heart of the NYU area of Greenwich Village, so there is no shortage of before/after theatre bars, cafes, restaurants, tattoos, and entertainments.
